BLAZE is the coming together of string quartet and saxophone to create a fusion of classical and Jazz, Classical, Tango, Pop and Easy Listening music.

Blaze is is an exciting and innovative ensemble fusing classical and popular idioms using the sound of the soprano saxophone with string quartet. Blaze repertoire spans jazz, classical, tango, pop and easy listening with many arrangements especially commissioned for the group. The resulting sound is really quite stunning and appeals to traditional classical enthusiasts and newer audiences alike. Their repertoire ranges from Piazzolla and Bach to Coldplay and Snow Patrol. Blaze have performed at music festivals, high profile events and concerts all over the UK including a performance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Members of Blaze are all professional musicians trained at Britain’s most prestigious conservatoires. On Releasing their debut CD , Musician Magazine hailed it as “serene and instantly appealing”. In 2011 Blaze were awarded funding from the PRS for music foundation to commission a new piece from internationally acclaimed composer and saxophonist Iain Ballamy. Ballamy’s approach was particularly appealing to Blaze as he has performed in and composed for a variety of acclaimed groups across the whole musical spectrum from jazz to classical and world music.
